InformeDesign: Glossary of Terms

Sensory information concerning balance received by the eyes, muscles and joints, and vestibular system is sent as nerve impulses to the brain stem to mediate one’s sense of balance and motion. The vesicular apparatus is located in the inner ear next to the cochlea and detects both angular acceleration (e.g., the feeling of nodding one’s head) and linear acceleration (e.g., the feeling of going down in an elevator).
